Junior/Age Group Development
New Zealand Under 25 and Under 21 Teams for World Championships 2019.
The World Long Range Target Rifle Championships are being held on the Trentham Rifle Range, New Zealand, Starting in late January 2019. They will not be in New Zealand for at least another 24 years.
It is the intention of NRANZ to have an Under 21 and an Under 25 team to contest the World Championship Matches in these age groups.
• Age Eligibility. Team members must be under 21 years old or under 25 years old for their respective teams on the day of the competition, 3rd February 2019.
• Both teams are competing at the same time.
• Each team comprises up to 8 members. One team member will be named as Captain. Five shooters are required on match day.
• Each team also has a manager who is not required to be under the age limit.
• All team members are eligible and encouraged to compete in all of the associated individual events of the NZ National Championships and the World Long Range Championships. There are World Individual titles too.
• Final selection of the teams will be made in 2018 by the end of the 2017/18 season.
NRANZ will be holding a number of training weekends prior to the final selection of the teams. Any shooters that will be eligible to compete are encouraged to attend the training weekends. Your current level of ability is not important, just the desire to be in the teams, to train and to do well.
If you do not shoot Smallbore, you are encouraged to do so as it is good training and skill development. If you do not even shoot a long range target rifle, but have some target shooting experience and would like to be involved, now is the time to jump in. At the Under 21 level especially, there are plenty of opportunities. At the last two World Championships, 2011 Brisbane, and 2015 USA, we have only had an Under 25 team, but have had shooters as young as 16 in the team.
There may be some financial assistance available but the amount is limited so the costs will be your own. For the training weekends cost equalisation is used to ensure the costs of travel are evened out.
If you are interested in being involved and trying to make one of the teams please contact the NRANZ Secretary at secretary@nranz.org.nz or Malcolm Dodson, Junior Development Coach at m_gdodson@xtra.co.nz 0276522640 or 035705542

It is the intention of the National Rifle Association of New Zealand to have an Under 25 Team competing at the World Long Range Championship at Camp Perry, Ohio, USA in August / September 2015.
NRANZ plans to hold training weekends for all under 25 shooters. At times, these will be held in conjunction with training weekends for the open team members.
If you have ambition to be a member of the 2015 NZ Under25 Rifle Team there are some things you need to do. Even if you do not aim to make this team you are most welcome to attend the build-up training weekends.
NRANZ has a budget for Under 25 shooter training and development. Generally the training weekends are run at a low cost to Under 25 participants.
At the 2011 World Championships in Brisbane, two NZ Under 25 Team members were also in the Open Team. There is no reason that a number of Under 25 Team members will not also be selected in the NZ Open Team when the teams for the 2015 USA event are announced.

NRANZ acknowledges the generous assistance given our Junior programme by SPARC through the avenues of the New Zealand Shooting Federation (NZSF).
The junior development programme for shooting season 2010/2011 was focused on getting an NRANZ Under 25 Team to the World Long Range Championships in Brisbane October 2011.
The development work done with the NRANZ World Long Range Under 25 squad will form the template for an ongoing development programme. This programme is aimed at the junior or starting level young and new members of either Target Rifle and or F Class shooters.
The 2011 / 2012 shooting season will see three training weekends held throughout the country for junior shooters. Due to the workload required of the Brisbane World Championships it is proposed to hold one prior to the National Championships in January 2012, the remaining two activities to be held in the later part of the season.
The Junior Development programme for 2011 / 2012 will consist of Training weekends scheduled as follows:
Training at each of these three weekends will cover, but is not limited to:
The NRA Office needs to know who you are and that you are keen to book a space in this program. So send us an email now!
