ANZAC Autumn Championships Marlborough
The annual inter association competition for the Tui Black Shield was held on the Kaituna Range, Blenheim.
With heavy rain expected to start falling by 10.30 am the decision was made to forego the 300 and 600 yard sections and just shoot the 900 yard match. The gusty north westerly wind made the coaches work as it fluctuated from 4 to 9 minutes. Shooting for the teams was done by 10.30 as the showers got heavier, and shortly after the heavy rain arrived.
Canterbury got the shield back off Wellington after finishing strongly with Bevan Mehrtens firing the only possible of the day shooting under coach Richard Rowlands. As Canterbury and Wellington both had 10 shooters and Marlborough 9 , the Wellington and Canterbury teams had a cutout to give a possible 450 point team score.
