2024 Marlborough Autumn Championship
Marlborough Autumn Championships 27th April 2024.
It was a lovely autumn day although the frost made the start a little fresh, but it warmed up to 20 degrees during the day. It was a small field with only 16 in attendance.
The start at 300 yards in the bright glare of the early sun saw 3 of the A graders post possibles along with the lone C grader. In FTR Classic there were two possibles, and the sole F Open got one as well.
At 600 the air was moving around but not doing much. Charlie Ledbrook in FTR Classic and Andre Doyle in A grade both posted their second possibles for the day.
By the time we got to the 15 shot match at 900 the breeze was doing a little more and although John Snowden got caught once he hammered in 13 centres.
Charlie dominated FTR Classic with a score of 203.11 for the day winning by a margin of 14 points from Brian Graystone on 189.7.
Craig Hunt won uncontested in F Open posting 205.11, as did Barry Brown in C grade with 164.7.
The two local B graders fought it out with Chris Burgess ahead with 164.4, from Clinton Whyte on 163.10. Clinton's mind may well have been wandering as he gets married on the 5th of May.
The A grade went to Malcolm Dodson on 171.12 from Martin Fleming and Andre Doyle on 170.13, being separated by a countback of their 900 scores.
Tui Black Teams Match Sunday 28th April 2024.
The Sunday saw similar weather to the Saturday minus the frost, although still a cool start, and the breeze was a little fresher though.
The course of fire being 10 shots at 300, 600 and 900 yards.
Canterbury had 5 shooters, Kaituna 7, and Wellington 4.
A random draw from the Kaituna squad saw Jonno sent to shoot for Wellington, bugger.
Kaituna still had 6 so got to cut their lowest aggregate score for the day.
With mixed F Class and TR teams the scores are points down and centres up.
Wellington won the match 33 down, Canterbury was second a point behind on 34 down with Kaituna 38 down.
Top score on the day was Ross Mason on 2 down, coached by Andre Doyle.
