RIP - Colin Simonsen
Colin Simonsen
It’s with sadness I inform you of the death of Colin Simonsen. Colin started fullbore in the 1950s as a teenager, when he moved from Westport to Christchurch. He was a well-respected member of the Sydenham Rifle Club. They were one of the strongest teams of New Zealand shooting at the time and Colin was a member of many of their winning teams. Colin moved to Wellington in the late 60s or early 70s and joined Karori Club. He shot and coached in many Karori teams and coached WRA teams. He was also a national selector. Colin shot Smallbore for the Melrose Club between 1973 and 1979 and served on their committee. Later in his shooting career he joined the Onslow Rifle Club.
Colin was a good club member, he supported the clubs he was in well, helping with administration and being a positive influence to ensure people were looked after. He epitomises a person I would describe as a gentleman. He was cheerful, with a smile on his face most of the time, easy to talk to and was ethical in the way he treated others.
Colin's services will be held this Saturday, 18 February 2023, starting at 11:00am for viewing, then whenua Tapu 12pm for service, Porirua Club for refreshments at 1:30pm.
