Report from Bendigo, Victoria, Australia

The 7 Kiwis at Bendigo have been enjoying some cool but sunny weather. The first day of the Syme (Queens lead up) saw the usual light shifty conditions that you expect here. The early shooters really struggle with sighting as the sun is close to rising over the targets so the sighting is awful.

The first matches were 2 x 500 yards and then 1 x 600 yards. At the end of the first day there was only one 150 on the board.  Day 2 of the Syme had seen a change to a fresh southerly and a rear fishtail and a decided drop in temperature. With 700, 900 and a 1000 yards the scores were well spread by the end of the day.  John Snowden was the best of the New Zealanders finishing 3rd on 291.28. Brian Carter was next in 12th on 287.21. The rest of us somewhat further back.

The first day of the Queens saw the same course as the first day of the Syme (2 x 500 and 600 yards).  The light and shifty conditions also returned with mirage and flags often not agreeing.

Brian is the best placed Kiwi in 7th on 149.17, John next in 13th with 148.16, closely followed by Mike Collings on 148.14 and Bevan Mehrtens on 148.13 in 18th.

Tomorrow's (Saturday) course of fire is 700, 800 and 900 with another 900 and 1000 to finish on Sunday.
