President's Autumn Report to Members

Members Up-Date Autumn 2015.

Welcome to the NRANZ members' up-date where we let the membership know what has happened and what is coming up in the Fullbore Shooting world.

I would like to welcome Helen Morgan to the NRA, she is taking over as Secretary and with a steep learning curve will have the office and NRA running smoothly soon. The office will be open Monday to Thursday from 8:00am - 1:00pm.  Coby Snowden has taken over as Treasurer, both are shooters and bring a wide range of experience to the NRA.  I would like to thank Andre Doyle for his work as Secretary / Tresasurer and wish him all the best in the future.

June Council Meeting will be held on the 27-28th June at the NRA Headquarters. Please contact your Regional Delegates if you have any ideas or suggestions that will move the Association forward.

Congratulations to Alan Hatcher from the Cheltenham Club who was awarded the Distinguished Services Medal for outstanding service and effort for the NRANZ. The medal was presented at the Cheltenham Championship and was well deserved.

We have 3 teams heading overseas over the next couple of months.  First, the NZ Ladies are shooting for the Collinson Shield at the Australian Nationals at the Belmont range, Brisbane, NZ Under 25's and the NZ Palma Team are traveling to Camp Perry in the USA for the American Long Range Championships, World Long Range Championships and Palma and finally an F Class Goodwill Team are shooting at the Queensland Championship at the Belmont range, Brisbane. Good shooting and safe traveling to all members.

An article on Fullbore Rifle shooting has been published in the May/June issue of NZ Guns and Hunting, please buy a copy and take it to work, the smallbore club, the coffee table at home. Use it to show friends, work colleagues and prospective members what the sport is about, it’s a great way to introduce people to the sport.

Barnard Precision Regional Championship has started with $1500 prize money up for grabs with selected Championships which you contest before Christmas 2015 giving you qualifying points in the draw, details on the NRA Website.

The World Championships and Palma match will be held at Trentham in 2019, this will be a major event in the Fullbore Shooting with visitors from overseas and NZ competing. This is your chance to shoot in a world championship without having to travel to the other side of the world and spend thousands of dollars. Everyone who wants to take part will be welcomed and accommodated.  2019, and the years before will be large events in NZ and everyone should start training to compete.

Clubs need to take advantage of all the opportunities to attract new members, websites are available through the NRA or with free sites such as sportsground, and help is available to set up these websites up for your club. A lot of clubs are now on facebook, another great way to contact potential members. Have a look at Petone, Trentham, Karori, Clevedon, Ashburton, Otorohanga, Malvern and Cheltenham’s Facebook pages, just search them and join, a few photos increase your appeal. Also available are the NRA pamphlets and club cards, talk to your local police arms officer and ask if your club can leave some with them.  Members are obtaining licenses all the time and asking these guy’s where they can shoot, sport shops are also a great opportunity to take in some pamphlets or cards, there are hundreds of members out there who just need a push in our direction. Your club needs someone to answer phone and e-mail contacts, be positive and get them out to the range.

NRA history books and NRA polo shirts and hoodies are still available, but going fast, so place your order now.

Thanks to Karyn Flanagan and Amy Hatcher an NRA Photo book has been donated to the Upper Hutt Library.

Members passing -

Robin Mayston from the Rotorua, Te Puke and Ashburton Rifle clubs has passed away, Robin was a Master Grade Smallbore shooter, member of many NZ and Palma teams. He along with Frank Godfrey and Jack Cook were known as the 3 Wisemen, they traveled the country together, always giving great advice to shooters who needed help with humor and generosity. Robin was involved in the Media so we received great Fullbore Shooting coverage in the newspapers from his effort.

Graham Jeune from Upper Hutt and Te Puke Rifle Clubs. Graham was a true gentleman and always supported Te Puke Championship.
